Government of Ontario announcement on Gathering Limits

The Government of Ontario has stated that it is reducing the gathering limits to 25 people for outdoor, private gatherings and 10 people for indoor, private gatherings, for cities and regions across Ontario.

The Government of Ontario has also sated that the new limits will not apply to events or gatherings held in staffed businesses and facilities, such as bars, restaurants, cinemas, convention centres or banquet halls, gyms and recreational sporting or performing art events.

Ontario Soccer announces OPDL License Holder coming to Niagara Region

Ontario Soccer’s Player Development Program has announced that Niagara Falls SC will join the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) for 2021 and 2022.

They will join 29 other license holders in Ontario, made up of Clubs and Academies, from around the province, which support the advancement of athletes along Ontario Soccer’s Talented Pathway.

The changes to Return to Play – Phase 2 are now in effect

Ontario Soccer is pleased to inform the membership, after consultation with the Province of Ontario and Canada Soccer, we are implementing the following enhancements to our Return to Play Guide and Plan – Phase 2.

The addendum to Return to Play – Phase 2 will now incorporate and permit modified games between different Clubs and Academies within the same region.

The Return to Play Guide also now includes details on conducting: Exhibition Games, Tournaments / Festivals, League Play and Trials and Open Evaluations.

Play ON! Spotlight Series – Featuring: Oak Ridges Soccer Club

Following an unprecedented shutdown of sport worldwide, Ontario Soccer is continuing to return to the pitch. The Play ON! Spotlight Series is a Return to Play campaign designed for the membership to help drive awareness and registration as Clubs, Academies, Districts Associations and Leagues Return to Play this summer and fall.

This campaign will help build communities, increase health and wellness, excite our members, and reinvigorate participation. We are calling upon the Ontario Soccer membership to inspire and unite the soccer community as Ontario Returns to Play.

There will be challenges and it may be different than we remember, but the most important thing is that we move the game forward together. Unified in our return, we will all Pitch in, Play ON! with the game we love.

This week, we speak with the Technical Manager from Oak Ridges Soccer Club on how they are managing through Return to Play, the challenges, the successes and the smiles.

Ontario Soccer Summit to be postponed until 2022

Supporters of Ontario Soccer’s premier development event will have to wait a little longer for a return to the Summit on their development journey.

The Ontario Soccer Summit, which annually attracts Coaches, Match Officials, Administrators and Soccer Leaders from across the province and Canada, will be postponed in 2021 and return in early 2022.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities announces sport relief fund

Ontario Soccer are informing our membership that Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) announced today that the national charity has made available an $8 million sport relief fund to help sport and recreation organizations continue to deliver programming in 2020 and beyond.

Many community sport organizations have shut their doors due to the financial burden created by COVID-19, including lost revenue and increased programs costs.

Annual Meeting of Members concludes with second installment in 2020

Ontario Soccer recently concluded its Annual Meeting of the Members (AMM) with the second installment of the event for 2020.

The AMM, which had been divided into two parts as a result of the ongoing public health crisis, was conducted as a hybrid meeting, which saw some delegates appear in person, while properly socially distancing and wearing personal protection equipment and a majority of delegates participating online.

Update on Rowan’s Law Implementation timeline

The Government of Ontario has made some updates to the timelines for implementing Rowan’s Law.

This July 2020 would have marked a major date for the Rowan’s Law legislation, which requires sport organizations to establish Removal-From-Sport and Return to Sport protocols.

As a result of the COVID-19, the Government of Ontario has postponed the July 2020 date to Jan. 1, 2021.
