Toronto Idolo score two late goals to advance to the Futsal Canadian Championships

The Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup final had everything fans have come to expect from the marquee event – intrigue, intensity and an insanely fast pace.

After falling behind early, Toronto Idolo came storming back to win the Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup final, defeating FC Toronto 4-2 and advancing to the Futsal Canadian Championships.

They would need two late goals to seal the deal and when they did it set off rocking celebrations around the gym, as the sizable fan contingent erupted.

Ontario Futsal Cup wraps up with four more youth titles claimed

The final four Ontario Futsal Cup finals have been completed and futsal fans have been treated to a fantastic display of talent.

Unionville Milliken found themselves in three of the four finals at Durham College in Oshawa over the weekend, walking away with two titles. Erin Mills and Alliance FC rounded out the title winners.

The U-18 Boys and Girls divisions wrapped up the previous weekend and both finals were a thrill-a-minute.

The Ontario Cup, the Provincial Soccer Championship for the LTPD Soccer for Life stream, is the largest Club competition of its kind in Canada.

The 2022 Ontario Cup will mark the 106th year of the competition and teams from across the province will compete to capture the hardware.

The 2022 Ontario Cup Entry Form is available online but registration closes March 31. Be sure to act quickly to get your team in the competition.

17 Ontario players called to Women’s Celebration Tour squad

Canada Soccer have announced an extended squad for their upcoming Women’s National Team Celebration Tour as they continue their preparations for the upcoming Concacaf W Championship, the qualification route for both the FIFA Women’s World Cup as well as the next Olympic Games.

17 Ontario players are part of the squad that will take part in a two match series in Vancouver on April 8 and 11.

Nominations for the Centre Circle Awards are due by April 15

The Centre Circle Awards are Ontario Soccer’s highest level of recognition and are presented annually to deserving soccer leaders and organizations nominated on the basis of their outstanding contributions to the development of soccer in Ontario and Canada.

Ontario Soccer recognizes these leaders annually and this year year the Centre Circle Awards 2022 will be presented on Sept. 24, 2022 as part of Ontario Soccer Annual Members Meeting.

The deadline for submitting Centre Circle Awards nominations to Ontario Soccer is April 15, 2022.

Two National C Licence Courses are nearly sold out

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce two new National “C” Licence courses in different deliver formats: blended and intensive.

Coaches who obtain a ‘C’ Licence Certification will be able to be a Head Coach in some Regional Leagues and an Assistant Coach in the Ontario Player Development League.

Government Recovery Funding Grants Open to Member Community Sport Clubs

Ontario Soccer is working closely with the Government of Ontario to help stabilize Ontario’s sport and recreation sector.

Following a recent announcement from the Ministry of Heritage, Sport Tourism and Culture Industries, Ontario Soccer will develop, manage and implement a fair and transparent funding program, through a grant application process, for our Member Community Soccer Clubs in need.

This funding will support Member Clubs across the province in sustaining their organizations as a result of the impact of the global pandemic.

The Men’s division will kick off on April 21 to April 26 and the Women’s division will begin on April 22.

Ontario Soccer announces its new 2022-2026 Strategic Plan

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce the Board of Directors, newly approved, 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, which will serve as a road map for soccer in Ontario over the next five years.

The Strategic Plan will focus on three key areas of our sport – Govern, Grow and Develop and is fully aligned with the same three strategic pillars and plan terms as our national governing body, Canada Soccer.

Within these pillars, each have three strategic initiatives where Ontario Soccer will create new opportunities on and off the field of play.

Government of Ontario has lifted masking requirements for indoor sport facilities

The Government of Ontario announced on Mar. 9, 2022 that it is relaxing pubic health measures, in response to the recent status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of those changes, effective Mar. 21, 2022 the Government of Ontario has removed the masking requirements for sport and recreational facilities.

As a result of this announcement, for those that access the Ontario Soccer Centre, you will no longer be required to wear a mask while in the facility.

Respect in Sport Recertification Reminder

The Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program is mandatory for technical leaders (Coach and Match Officials) and is valid for a period of five years. The RIS Activity Leader certification is also valid and transferable across all sports.

Ontario Soccer encourages all Member Districts and Clubs to educate your membership of this mandatory requirement.

Updates on Coach Certification Requirements and Grassroots Education Hosting Guide

Ontario Soccer has provided an update on the Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education Program in Ontario.

Ontario Soccer has confirmed that the waiver for coaches to be registered and actively coaching with only ‘Theory-trained’ status will no longer be in effect in the 2022 Outdoor Season.

To support this, Ontario Soccer has updated the Grassroots Education Guide.

Reminder: Ontario Soccer Player Membership Registration Fees for 2022 Outdoor Season

On Dec. 12, 2020, the Voting Members of Ontario Soccer (District Presidents) approved new player membership registration fees for Ontario Soccer’s Outdoor Season. The Voting Members, noting the impact of the pandemic and to minimize the effect on their members, approved the new fees to go into effect for the 2022 Outdoor Season.

For the last decade, as the demand for better services and programs has grown, Ontario Soccer’s resources have not kept pace to match that demand, not to mention the cost of inflation over this period of time. Since 2012, there has been no increase in the Ontario Soccer Outdoor player membership registration fees.
