Government of Ontario pauses indoor soccer activity until Jan. 26, 2022

The Government of Ontario has paused all indoor-soccer activity until Jan. 26, 2022 or until further public health information becomes available.

As a result, Ontario Soccer has announced that the Ontario Indoor Cup and Ontario Futsal Cup will be postponed, with more information to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Provincial Indoor Soccer League (PISL) will also postpone its indoor season, with further information on the remainder of the season to follow at a later date.

Updates to Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program

Canada Soccer has announced the mandate that all member clubs (inclusive of not-for-profit and for-profit organizations) must hold a minimum Club Licence of “Quality Soccer Provdier” by Outdoor Season 2023.

This requirement has been reviewed and approved by Ontario Soccer’s Board of Directors and can now be found within the updated 2022 and 2023 Operational Procedures, which take effect Jan. 1, 2022.

Registration window for Canada Soccer C Licence Evaluation Process now open

Due to the public health situation, the process to complete the Canada Soccer C Licence Observation of Competency was impacted and during 2021 the priority was to support coaches who had begun the process but were unable to complete it due to ongoing restrictions.

Ontario Soccer is now opening the registration window for coaches to apply for an evaluation in 2022.

London’s Jessie Fleming wins 2021 Canada Soccer Player of the Year Award

Olympic champion Jessie Fleming from Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team has been named the 2021 Canada Soccer Player of the Year.

Fleming won the national award for the first time after leading Canada in matches, starts and minutes player while also co-leading Canada in goals scored.

IModel Pilot Project Update

Ontario Soccer has provided another update on the IModel Pilot Project, which is launching in 2022 in the Central Region of Ontario.

Based on the feedback received from 12 townhall meetings and two technical meetings with club technical directors, the IModel has been modified to ensure alignment with some key concerns.

Theo Corbeanu and Jade Rose named Canada Soccer Youth Players of the Year

Canada Soccer’s young footballers Theo Corbeanu and Jade Rose have been named the 2021 Canada Soccer Youth Players of the Year.

The two young players were recognized for their performance and progress as part of Canada Soccer’s National Teams Program. Corbeanu from Hamilton, Ont., is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday from Wolverhampton Wolves while Rose from Markham, Ont. is enrolled in her first year at Harvard University.

Toronto’s Joshua Lemos named Canada Soccer Futsal Player of the Year

Joshua Lemos from Toronto, Ontario has been named the 2021 Canada Soccer Futsal Player of the Year.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper was Canada’s star players at the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship in Guatemala, bringing Canada to within a win of qualifying for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Reminder: Ontario Soccer Player Membership Registration Fees for 2022 Outdoor Season

On Dec. 12, 2020, the Voting Members of Ontario Soccer (District Presidents) approved new player membership registration fees for Ontario Soccer’s Outdoor Season. The Voting Members, noting the impact of the pandemic and to minimize the effect on their members, approved the new fees to go into effect for the 2022 Outdoor Season.

For the last decade, as the demand for better services and programs has grown, Ontario Soccer’s resources have not kept pace to match that demand, not to mention the cost of inflation over this period of time. Since 2012, there has been no increase in the Ontario Soccer Outdoor player membership registration fees.

DAZN and Ontario Soccer launch marketing program

Ontario Soccer is teaming up with DAZN, a leading global sports streaming service, to bring an exciting fundraising opportunity for the 2021-22 season to its member Districts, Clubs, Academies and Leagues to support grassroots soccer across the province.

As part of the fundraising program, participating Ontario Soccer member organizations will receive a commission payment for any subscription traffic they refer.

This provides the best of both worlds to participating groups by creating potential fundraising success, while allowing their participants to watch thrilling matches involving such Canadian soccer icons as Alphonso Davies and Kadeisha Buchanan.
