The sun sets on Ontario Cup 2021
The Ontario Cup Finals came to a conclusion for six more divisions recently at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

This was the first major competition that Ontario Soccer has run in the post-pandemic era and with consistent crowds throughout the two weekends and even larger numbers watching online, it has been a wildly successful Return to Play in the province.

What began as over 600 teams and 12,000 athletes, was down to a final two teams, who were facing off in the 105th running of the Soccer for Life competition.

Ontario Cup serves as development opportunity for Match Officials
The Ontario Cup competition is an outstanding platform that offers opportunity for players and coaches to develop. It also serves as a valuable environment for Ontario Soccer’s upcoming and developing Match Officials.

For three young match officials and their mentor, this year’s Ontario Cup was a reflection of the success of the Long Term Match Officials Development program and all that it can do.

Ontario Soccer Player Membership Registration Fees for 2022 Outdoor Season
On Dec. 12, 2020, the Voting Members of Ontario Soccer (District Presidents) approved new player membership registration fees for Ontario Soccer’s Outdoor Season. The Voting Members, noting the impact of the pandemic and to minimize the effect on their members, approved the new fees to go into effect for the 2022 Outdoor Season.

For the last decade, as the demand for better services and programs has grown, Ontario Soccer’s resources have not kept pace to match that demand, not to mention the cost of inflation over this period of time. Since 2012, there has been no increase in the Ontario Soccer Outdoor player membership registration fees.

Return to Play Membership Survey Results
In November of 2020, the Ontario Soccer membership took part in a Return to Play survey, which sought input on how Return to Play had been implemented for our sport across the province, during the ongoing public health crisis.

Thanks to the membership of Ontario Soccer, we received a significant response to our Return to Play Survey and that data has directly assisted us in reviewing the impact that the Return to Play Guide and Plan had on the community as well as how membership have managed through the pandemic.

COVID-19 Liability Protection Legislation receives Royal Assent
The Government of Ontario has announced that the Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act 2020 has now received Royal Assent.

This Act, which is now law, will provide liability protection for workers, volunteers and organizations that make an honest effort to follow public health guidelines and laws relating to exposure to COVID-19.

This topic has been a top priority among amateur sport organizations in Ontario. Ontario Soccer has been actively advocating for months, in front of various key decision making bodies, to protect all levels of amateur sport who are following Return to Play Safety protocols during the global pandemic.
