Ontario Soccer’s Play ON! e-Learning Series, presented by Respect in Sport, continues on March 25 at 1 p.m. with crucial tips from Paul Varian for our members to enjoy a successful journey towards a safe Return Play.

The session titled “Making the Case for the Value of RTP – Don’t Blame the Soccer Parents” will highlight the importance of understanding your customer base and what member organizations should be planning to do when pitches re-open.

Update on Ontario Registered Academies for 2021

Ontario Soccer has posted an update for Ontario Registered Academies (ORA) in 2021.

In order to be eligible to compete for Outdoor 2021, all ORAs must complete their membership and registration applications with their District Association in accordance with their membership registration procedures.

Government of Ontario moves eight regions moving to new levels

Ontario Soccer continues to work in consultation with Canada Soccer and the Government of Ontario, as we prepare for Return to Play 2021. Ontario Soccer will keep the membership updated with the most recent development surrounding Ontario Soccer’s Return to Play.

The Government of Ontario announced last week that it is moving eight regions to new levels, as they phase-in a return to the Public Health Restrictions for the remaining Public Health Units and their respective colour-coded zones.

16 Ontario players selected to Men’s World Cup qualifying roster

Canada Soccer have announced the Men’s National Team roster for the opening matches of its FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers campaign.

As part of the roster, 16 Ontario players will be in the squad when they play Bermuda on March 25.

Canada undefeated heading into final group match of Olympic qualifying

Canada Soccer’s Men’s U2-23 National team added a 0-0 draw against Honduras to their opening match 2-0 victory over El Salvador at the Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying to acquire four points with a 1-1-0 record after two Group B matches.

Canada will wrap up group phase with an all important match against Honduras on March 25.

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce that the 2021 Match Officials Registration process will open Feb. 19, 2021.

This year, Ontario Soccer are offering early bird registration fee prices, which will begin on Feb. 19, 2021 and run through to Mar. 31, 2021. After April 1, 2021, the full fees will apply.

Registration for the 2021 Ontario Cup is now open. Come be part of the excitement this summer

Registration for the 2021 Ontario Cup is now open.

Understanding that the public health situation remains fluid at this time, Ontario Soccer is opening up the Ontario Cup Entry process now, in anticipation of having a Provincial Championship this summer.

The 2021 Ontario Cup will mark the 105th year of its competition and the entry deadline is April 28.

Update to the 2022 IModel Pilot Project

The IModel underpins very important principles of fairness, inclusiveness and competitiveness and will enhance player development at both the Regional and District level for youth competitive soccer.

Applications for Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities’ Sport Relief Fund are now open

In response to the absolute need demonstrated by community sport organizations across Canada, Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) has committed an additional $12 million to its Jumpstart Charities’ Sport Relief Fund.

Ontario Soccer is encouraging members to apply to the Jumpstart Sport Relief Fund to assist in managing costs.

Ontario’s Non Profit Network continues advocacy for sport

The Ontario Non Profit Network (ONN) continues to advocate before the Government of Ontario on behalf of amateur sport and non-profit organizations.

ONN has made a number of key recommendations to the Government of Ontario regarding the 2021 provincial budget, stabilization funding for non-profits and other initiatives to further aid in the support of non-profits.

Return to Play Membership Survey Results

In November of 2020, the Ontario Soccer membership took part in a Return to Play survey, which sought input on how Return to Play had been implemented for our sport across the province, during the ongoing public health crisis.

Thanks to the membership of Ontario Soccer, we received a significant response to our Return to Play Survey and that data has directly assisted us in reviewing the impact that the Return to Play Guide and Plan had on the community as well as how membership have managed through the pandemic.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to review the most up-to-date Return to Play Guide and review any updates that you may have missed throughout the year.

Ensure your organization’s Return to Play plan is aligned with the Return to Play Guide so that when we’re able to safely return to the field, your organization will be ready.

COVID-19 Liability Protection Legislation receives Royal Assent

The Government of Ontario has announced that the Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act 2020 has now received Royal Assent.

This Act, which is now law, will provide liability protection for workers, volunteers and organizations that make an honest effort to follow public health guidelines and laws relating to exposure to COVID-19.

This topic has been a top priority among amateur sport organizations in Ontario. Ontario Soccer has been actively advocating for months, in front of various key decision making bodies, to protect all levels of amateur sport who are following Return to Play Safety protocols during the global pandemic.

Update on Rowan’s Law Implementation Timeline

As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Government of Ontario made the decision earlier this year to postpone the effective date of Part 2 implementation of Rowan’s Law from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

In light of the resurgence of COVID-19 and the public health measures in place to help slow the spread of the virus, the Government of Ontario has made the decision to defer the effective date of their Part 2 implementation of Rowan’s Law from Jan. 1, 2021 to July 1, 2021.
