The Play ON! e-learning series, presented by Respect in Sport, begins today with a powerful panel discussion

To encourage all soccer stakeholders across Ontario to Pitch In. Play ON!, Ontario Soccer is excited to offer a series of webinars focused on preparing its members for a safe and successful Return to Play.

The Play ON! e-Learning Series, presented by Respect in Sport, consists of free webinars that will be offered over the next eight weeks designed to educate, energize and inspire our soccer community, as we prepare for the 2021 Outdoor Season.

The e-Learning series kicks off today at 1 p.m. with a powerful panel discussion featuring Dina Bell-Laroche (Sport Law and Strategy Group), Marco DiBuono (Canadian Tire Jumpstart) and Sheldon Kennedy (Respect Group) discussing “The Return to Values-Based Sport.” If you haven’t already, be sure to register by noon today to secure your spot.

Registration for the 2021 Ontario Cup is now open.

Understanding that the public health situation remains fluid at this time, Ontario Soccer is opening up the Ontario Cup Entry process now, in anticipation of having a Provincial Championship this summer.

The 2021 Ontario Cup will mark the 105th year of its competition and the entry deadline is April 28.

Government of Ontario moves Toronto, Peel and North Bay-Parry Sound to new levels, along with 7 more regions

Ontario Soccer continues to work in consultation with Canada Soccer and the Government of Ontario, as we prepare for Return to Play 2021. Ontario Soccer will keep the membership updated with the most recent development surrounding Ontario Soccer’s Return to Play.

The Government of Ontario announced last week that it is moving Toronto, Peel and North Bay – Parry Sound, along with seven other Public Health Units to new levels in the colour-coded framework as they phase-in a return to the Public Health Restrictions for the remaining Public Health Units and their respective colour-coded zones.

Update to the 2022 IModel Pilot Project

The IModel underpins very important principles of fairness, inclusiveness and competitiveness and will enhance player development at both the Regional and District level for youth competitive soccer.

Applications for Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities’ Sport Relief Fund are now open

In response to the absolute need demonstrated by community sport organizations across Canada, Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) has committed an additional $12 million to its Jumpstart Charities’ Sport Relief Fund.

Ontario Soccer is encouraging members to apply to the Jumpstart Sport Relief Fund to assist in managing costs.

Match Official registration has opened for 2021. Get early bird prices

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce that the 2021 Match Officials Registration process will open Feb. 19, 2021.

This year, Ontario Soccer are offering early bird registration fee prices, which will begin on Feb. 19, 2021 and run through to Mar. 31, 2021. After April 1, 2021, the full fees will apply.

Canada Soccer’s e-National Championships wrapped up with the finals over the weekend.

Ontario’s Don Borello won the XBox division while Straho Postovanje placed third in the Playstation division.

Ontario’s Non Profit Network continues advocacy for sport

The Ontario Non Profit Network (ONN) continues to advocate before the Government of Ontario on behalf of amateur sport and non-profit organizations.

ONN has made a number of key recommendations to the Government of Ontario regarding the 2021 provincial budget, stabilization funding for non-profits and other initiatives to further aid in the support of non-profits.

In November of 2020, the Ontario Soccer membership took part in a Return to Play survey, which sought input on how Return to Play had been implemented for our sport across the province, during the ongoing public health crisis.

Thanks to the membership of Ontario Soccer, we received a significant response to our Return to Play Survey and that data has directly assisted us in reviewing the impact that the Return to Play Guide and Plan had on the community as well as how membership have managed through the pandemic.

There have been a number of updates to the Return to Play Guide throughout 2020.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to review the most up-to-date Return to Play Guide and review any updates that you may have missed throughout the year.

Ensure your organization’s Return to Play plan is aligned with the Return to Play Guide so that when we’re able to safely return to the field, your organization will be ready.

COVID-19 Liability Protection Legislation receives Royal Assent

The Government of Ontario has announced that the Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act 2020 has now received Royal Assent.

This Act, which is now law, will provide liability protection for workers, volunteers and organizations that make an honest effort to follow public health guidelines and laws relating to exposure to COVID-19.

This topic has been a top priority among amateur sport organizations in Ontario. Ontario Soccer has been actively advocating for months, in front of various key decision making bodies, to protect all levels of amateur sport who are following Return to Play Safety protocols during the global pandemic.

Update on Rowan’s Law Implementation Timeline

As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Government of Ontario made the decision earlier this year to postpone the effective date of Part 2 implementation of Rowan’s Law from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

In light of the resurgence of COVID-19 and the public health measures in place to help slow the spread of the virus, the Government of Ontario has made the decision to defer the effective date of their Part 2 implementation of Rowan’s Law from Jan. 1, 2021 to July 1, 2021.
