Review the Return to Play Guide

There have been a number of updates to the Return to Play Guide throughout 2020.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to review the most up-to-date Return to Play Guide and review any updates that you may have missed throughout the year.

Ensure your organization’s Return to Play plan is aligned with the Return to Play Guide so that when we’re able to safely return to the field, your organization will be ready.

Government of Ontario institutes Lockdown, all in-person soccer activities suspended until further notice

The Government of Ontario has paused the current Public Health Framework and announced a Province-Wide Shutdown.

Unfortunately this includes a suspension of all in-person soccer activities until further notice.

Ontario Soccer will continue to update the membership as further changes are made.

What you need to know about Match Official Accreditation Clinics
Ontario Soccer originally communicated updates to the 2021 Match Official Accreditation clinics in the I2020-098 bulletin. At the time, it confirmed that clinics will continue to be delivered through an improved online format.

The Host Users Guide, which was due in draft at the end of October, has been delayed until January 2021.

Update on Rowan’s Law Implementation Timeline
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Government of Ontario made the decision earlier this year to postpone the effective date of Part 2 implementation of Rowan’s Law from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

In light of the resurgence of COVID-19 and the public health measures in place to help slow the spread of the virus, the Government of Ontario has made the decision to defer the effective date of their Part 2 implementation of Rowan’s Law from Jan. 1, 2021 to July 1, 2021.

Ontario Indoor Cup 2021 has been cancelled, will return in 2022
In light of the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario Soccer has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 edition of the Ontario Indoor Cup.

Ontario Soccer took into account the regional and provincial realties of the requirements to host the Ontario Indoor Cup in early 2021, as well as the challenges of completing competitions due to the restriction of matches in some regions. The Ontario Indoor Cup competition will return in 2022.

Community Coach Workshops still Available Online
Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce that the Community coaching workshops are still available online.

To ensure that the Community Coaching Workshops are more accessible and to allow greater flexibility on when these courses can be delivered, the coaches will be able to work at their own pace to complete the course material.

Online learning is now available for Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train and Soccer For Life.

COVID-19 Liability Protection Legislation receives Royal Assent
The Government of Ontario has announced that the Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act 2020 has now received Royal Assent.

This Act, which is now law, will provide liability protection for workers, volunteers and organizations that make an honest effort to follow public health guidelines and laws relating to exposure to COVID-19.

This topic has been a top priority among amateur sport organizations in Ontario. Ontario Soccer has been actively advocating for months, in front of various key decision making bodies, to protect all levels of amateur sport who are following Return to Play Safety protocols during the global pandemic.

2020 Centre Circle Award winners announced
Soccer leaders from all over the province were recognized at the 2020 Centre Circle Awards @ Home virtual event on Sunday.

This year’s Centre Circle Awards, presented by Nothers – The Awards Store, was conducted as an online virtual event in accordance with Public Health Orders and was a special evening to honour those who have made an outstanding contributions to the game in our province and country.

Clubs, Academies, Leagues, Coaches, Match Officials, Administrators and those who have dedicated a lifetime to the game, all had a moment to shine in the spotlight of the Centre Circle.
