Happy Holidays!

2020 has been quite the year for us all, and we thank you yet again for your continued support for Washington Youth Soccer. We continue to lobby for a safe return to play for youth soccer in our state, and we hope that the new year provides that.

Along with an update on our return to play status, this month we have a reminder and update on the virtual auction and giving campaign that we announced last week.

Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind gift for that special soccer fan in your life, or you’d just like to donate to support access to the game across Washington, we welcome any and all contributionsas we finish off 2020.

We’d also like to congratulate the Seattle Sounders for their excellent season in Major League Soccer, even though they weren’t able to retain their title in last weekend’s MLS Cup final. In a year full of difficulties, they managed to nearly go the distance–with the help, we should note, of a number of WYS alumni. Our partnership with the Sounders is a long and fruitful one, and we can’t wait to see how Schmetzer’s team does next season.

Happy Holidays to our entire Washington Youth Soccer family, and we hope that the new year brings joy, peace, and soccer to us all.

Our virtual auction and giving campaign is in full swing! Help support the future of soccer in our state by bidding on one of our excellent items up for auction. We recently added an autographed soccer ball from former Sounder Osvaldo Alonso, a Sounders jersey autographed by Seattle forward Jordan Morris (see above), and a USWNT jersey signed by two-time World Cup winning coach Jill Ellis.

If you simply want to help grow the game in Washington and help kids in underserved communities, you can pledge a donation of any amount to one of our most important programs, Soccer For Success.

Governor Inslee extended the November 16 guidelines on outdoor sports until at least January 4.

A few key points, but you’ll want to refer to the governor’s release for more:

  • Games, scrimmages, and tournaments are not allowed until at least 1/4/20.
  • Full team trainings are allowed, as are intra-team scrimmages.
  • Players, coaches, and spectators are required to wear masks AT ALL TIMES.
  • Refer to county administrators and your local field operator before scheduling a practice session.
  • Any previous guidelines that are contradictory to the latest update are no longer applicable.

Keep an eye on our Return to Play page for the most up-to-date information.

Supporting Soccer for Success means supporting kids across Washington whose lives will be transformed not only by the community and fun of soccer, but also by the mental and physical health benefits provided by our coach-mentors. Giving just one child a sense of belonging and purpose can change the course of their life forever.
