Dear Washington Youth Soccer Members,

Thank you once again (and again…) for your dedication and support for youth soccer in Washington during this time. We are working hard to serve you and to find the most efficient and safe ways to get our kids back onto the pitch playing the game we all love.

Governor Jay Inslee, whose office we have collaborated and worked with for months now, recently released new guidelines for outdoor sports based on the latest temporary restrictions put in place for the entire state. See below for more info and (hopefully) the answers to some of your questions regarding the status of return to play.

We are pleased to announce our new partnership with Playform, an Israeli mobile-based computer vision and deep learning sports tech startup, to bring their flagship product to over 90,000 youth soccer players across Washington State. Playform’s cross-platform mobile application empowers players with unique, high-level training technology right at their fingertips. Check out our website for more information, or download the app for yourself!

This month’s PlayOn also has information about January’s Annual Player Fee Meeting, an epic story from a WYS alum, and our Of the Year Award West Region winners.

Thank you for all your support, and we hope to see everyone back on the pitch soon!

With things changing fast regarding COVID-19 in both Washington and the rest of the country, our goal is to keep you as updated as possible in regards to youth soccer in our state. The governor’s latest announcement (11/16/20) included updated guidelines for outdoor youth sports. The good news is that entire teams can train together now–but players must wear masks and maintain social distancing requirements. The bad news is that there will be no games, scrimmages, or tournaments until at least December 14, 2020.

Read the release linked above or on our website for full details. Note that the previous system of checking the Risk Assessment Dashboard is no longer applicable, and you should always check with your field providers and county administrators as specific guidelines can vary by county.

For questions and concerns, contact Terry Fisher at terry. Bookmark our Return to Play page for regular updates as we have them.

We were lucky enough to work with WYS alum Katherine Reynolds earlier this year, and as she recently announced her retirement from soccer, she allowed us to publish her story. Starting with her earliest days in Washington Youth Soccer, Katherine talks about her long, winding career through the beautiful game that took her to far-flung places like Germany and Australia, as well as numerous clubs in the United States. As she goes out on her own terms after many fruitful years at NWSL club Portland Thorns, she talks about what she’ll miss most–and what’s next for her.

Similar to the 2020 Annual General Meeting, the Washington Youth Soccer Annual Player Fee Meeting will be held virtually in January 2020. More specific details are coming soon, contact Keli Bitow for more information until the exact time and date are announced.
