Return to Play Survey #2 – Your Input is Needed

Thanks to the membership of Ontario Soccer, we received over 17,000 responses to our Return to Play survey and that data directly assisted us in creating the framework for our Return to Play Guide and Plan.

The Return to Play process has not been without its challenges and at this time we would like to assess how membership is managing through the global pandemic.

To understand your concerns better, Ontario Soccer has created a second survey so you can share your input on what Return to Play in Ontario has been like. We ask that you share this survey with your community and encourage others to take it as well.

2020 Centre Circle Awards Winners Announced

Soccer leaders from all over the province were recognized at the 2020 Centre Circle Awards @ Home virtual event on Sunday.

This year’s Centre Circle Awards, presented by Nothers – The Awards Store, was conducted as an online virtual event in accordance with Public Health Orders and was a special evening to honour those who have made an outstanding contributions to the game in our province and country.

Clubs, Academies, Leagues, Coaches, Match Officials, Administrators and those who have dedicated a lifetime to the game, all had a moment to shine in the spotlight of the Centre Circle.

Government of Ontario announcement on new Public Health Unit framework

The Government of Ontario has announced that is taking the initial steps to redefine how Public Health Units will manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ontario Soccer is working with the relevant Public Health and Sport authorities to update the Return to Play Guide and Plan.

Ontario Soccer will update the membership at that time, with more on Return to Play.

Whether you are on or off the field today, take time to be grateful for that and know that just like the challenges of the past, this time too shall pass.

Following an unprecedented shutdown of sport worldwide, Ontario Soccer is continuing to return to the pitch. The Play ON! Spotlight Series is a Return to Play campaign designed for the membership to help drive awareness and registration as Clubs, Academies, Districts Associations and Leagues Return to Play this summer and fall.

This campaign will help build communities, increase health and wellness, excite our members, and reinvigorate participation. We are calling upon the Ontario Soccer membership to inspire and unite the soccer community as Ontario Returns to Play.

There will be challenges and it may be different than we remember, but the most important thing is that we move the game forward together. Unified in our return, we will all Pitch in, Play ON! with the game we love.

This week, we are looking at Guelph Soccer Club and how they are managing through COVID-19.

Ontario Government Announcement on COVID-19 Liability Protection Legislation

The Government of Ontario has announced that it has tabled the Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act, 2020, which, if passed, will provide liability protection for non-profit organizations, coaches, volunteers and sport associations that make an honest effort to follow public health guidelines and laws relating to exposure to COVID-19.

The Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act, 2020 has moved to a third reading and will continue to be debated in the Ontario Provincial Legislature.

District Presidents / Ontario Registered Academies Working Group Update

In 2019, the Ontario Soccer Board of Directors launched several working groups. One such group, the “DP/ORA Working Group” includes members of the Ontario Soccer Board of Directors, Senior Management and representatives from the District Presidents Forum and Academies.

The assigned task is to develop a plan to realize the objective of integrating Clubs and Academies within the membership and competition structure of Ontario Soccer.

The last online C License Course of 2020 is sold-out. Put your name on a wait list for the next course

The National C License course, will be delivered online, with an in-person date taking place at the Ontario Soccer Centre, at a date to be confirmed.

The course includes online and in-person education. For the in-person portion of the course, attendees will be required to observe regional public health and safety protocols, while properly socially distancing and wearing appropriate personal protection equipment.

New COVID-19 Screening Amendments

The Government of Ontario recently amended Ontario Regulation 364/20 under the Reopening Ontario Act.

The Regulation now requires businesses and facilities across of of Ontario to screen workers, including contractors, students, volunteers or essential visitors like service providers.

The Return to Play Guide has been updated and now includes a Return to Office Protocol, screening questionnaire and additional guidance for members to use in managing their facilities and this new requirement.

Registration is now open for 2021 Outdoor Season

Ontario Soccer has opened the registration for the Outdoor 2021 season in the Ontario Soccer Club & Academy Registry (OSCAR), powered by SportsEngine.

There have been several changes and updates for Outdoor 2021 and organizations are encouraged to review the changes and OSCAR Release Notes for the outdoor season now.

Organizations reminded to consult with local Public Health Units

In addition to the Government of Ontario recent announcements about restrictions in hotspot communities, Ontario Soccer is aware that select Municipalities have begun enforcing additional restrictions related to organized team sports.

Member organizations are reminded that they are required to follow all Government of Ontario Public Health protocols, as well as any additional restrictions that local municipalities may apply, based on the advice of their local Public Health Units.

Community Coach Workshops still Available Online

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce that the Community coaching workshops are still available online.

To ensure that the Community Coaching Workshops are more accessible and to allow greater flexibility on when these courses can be delivered, the coaches will be able to work at their own pace to complete the course material.

Online learning is now available for Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train and Soccer For Life.

As Ontario’s Match Officials continue to prepare for the outdoor season with their online learning, Ontario Soccer is sharing another Match Official Panel Discussion from the Ontario Soccer Summit.

In this panel, the game and decision-making all come into play from different perspectives thanks to guests Scott Bowman (Canadian Premier League Match Official), Caroline Szwed (Sportsnet Host and Former Player) and Anthony Capotosto (Toronto FC Academy Director.)

The three have an open discussion regarding the view of decisionm-making from the eyes of a Match Official, Player and Coach.
