Hello Washington Youth Soccer members! We want to thank you again for your constant support during this time. Not only has our country been rocked by COVID-19, limiting the valuable interactions on the soccer field that we all hold dear, but we’ve also had to reckon with the tragic murder of George Floyd and countless others in the Black community. Please take a moment and read Washington Youth Soccer’s statement on racism and commitment to listening, learning, and assisting where we can.
As our country and state continue to phase back in to normalcy, the various counties in Washington move across phases at different times. We have worked closely with our medical advisor, Dr. Jonathan Drezner, and Governor Inslee’s office, to craft guidelines for our members on how best to get back onto the field as soon as it’s possible to do so safely. See below for more information on Return to Play.
This month we also have an update on the thriving new WYS Gaming division, as well as a congrats to two of our former EPD players that recently signed Homegrown Player contracts with the Seattle Sounders.
Again, we thank you for your continued support during these unique times. Keep an eye on our website and social channels for updates on Return to Play and more!

Washington Youth Soccer has released our Return to Play Guidelines, meant to provide clubs, coaches, parents, and athletes with best protocols and practices for getting back on the soccer field in the safest way possible.
We based our guidelines on the phase-in plan from the Washington State Governor’s Office, and will be releasing more information regarding WYS return to play as we learn more from their office and other governing bodies.
As you’ll see in our documents, the best thing to do now is to contact your local city council, county officials, and parks and recreation departments regarding what is and isn’t allowed during your county’s current phase. |

Since launching last month, WYS Gaming has been organizing regular FIFA 20 tournaments for our players and it’s been a big hit! We still have a couple events left in the Launch Series, and we just announced that we are participating in FIFA-FEST, a competition between 17 state youth soccer associations. Watch our website and social media profiles for news on when our qualifying tournament will be. |

Congratulations to former Washington Youth Soccer and EPD players Ethan Dobbelaere and Josh Atencio, who signed Homegrown Player contracts with the Seattle Sounders! Before joining the Sounders academy, both Ethan and Josh played on the same EPD team that went to the ODP Region IV Championship finals in 2015. Both were selected to the Region IV regional pool, and Ethan played with the regional team in a tournament in Argentina in 2016. Both young men also reached multiple WYS State Cup finals with their respective club teams, Seattle United (Ethan) and Crossfire (Josh).
“We are proud and excited for Josh and Ethan. We are thankful they were part of our EPD program and I am looking forward to seeing them represent the Sounders at the highest level,” said EPD Director Bastien Catrin. |
