The Provincial Projects kick off in 2020

The first Ontario Soccer Provincial Projects weekends of 2020 kicked off at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Jan. 11 and 12.

The selected athletes, between 40-50 per age group and gender, were previously evaluated at the Provincial Screening Competition in October, or throughout the year, and are now being further screened as part of the Provincial Projects.

Seven new speakers announced for Ontario Soccer Summit 2020

Ontario Soccer has announced seven more speakers, who will be joining the Ontario Soccer Summit 2020 roster.

Leading the list of new additions is Willie McNab, Academy Coach and International Academy Manager of the renowned Celtic FC from Scotland, who lead a technical session, Jen Cramer, Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Marketing for Major League Soccer and Eva Havaris, the Vice-President of Strategy for the Canadian Soccer Business, who joins the Road to 2026 Panel.

The Ontario Soccer Summit has also announced three fantastic Match Official speakers and one more Community Leaders speaker.

The Ontario Soccer Summit has announced seven new speakers which will be joining the 2020 roster.

Among them is Willie McNab, an Academy Coach and International Academy Manager of the renowned Celtic FC.

McNab joined the Play Inspire Unite Podcast from Scotland to discuss how Celtic develops talent, how they maintain a competitive edge without scores and standings and why he thinks you should attend Ontario Soccer Summit 2020.

Provincial Indoor Soccer League signs agreement to grow game across Ontario

The Ontario Soccer Centre and Ontario Soccer are pleased to announce that they have entered into a 5-year Licensing Agreement with DG Sports to grow and expand the Provincial Indoor Soccer League (PISL) across Ontario.

The PISL will offer league play for U9 to U21 divisions for both male and female teams. As the highest level of competition in both male and female age groups for indoor soccer, this agreement will help with the expansion and registration of indoor competition throughout the province and to under-serviced areas.

Five futsal teams have qualified for Ontario Winter Games 2020
Five futsal teams have qualified for the Ontario Winter Games, which will take place Feb. 27-Mar. 1, 2020 in Barrie and Orillia.

These futsal teams will be the first to ever play in the Ontario Winter Games, as this is the first year futsal will feature in the competition.

Joe Fletcher named PRO Manager of Senior Assistant Referees
The Professional Referee Organization is expanding its experienced front office staff with the addition of former MLS Assistant Referee of the Year Joe Fletcher, under the role of PRO Manager of Senior Assistant Referees.

The 43-year-old native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, will coordinate and supervise an Assistant Referee coaching program in MLS.

Want to host an Ontario Cup semi-final? The deadline is Jan. 18
Ontario Soccer is now accepting bids from District Associations interested in hosting the Ontario Cup Semi-Finals in 2020.

The 2020 Ontario Cup Semi-Finals will be held on Aug. 29-20, 2020. The deadline for submitting a bid to host the Ontario Cup Semi-Finals is January 18, 2020.

Ontario Indoor Cup final round is now set
The Ontario Indoor Cup 2020 final round has been set.

The final round will now be played at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Jan. 25-26 and Feb. 8-9.

Each of the divisional championship games will be broadcast on Jan. 26 and Feb. 9.

Two C-License courses are available but are filling up fast
The first C-License course of 2020 has sold-out but Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce two more C-License courses are now open.

London and Ottawa will each host a C-License course, starting in March 2020.

Coaches who obtain a C-License Certification and will have the qualifications to be a Head Coach in some Regional Leagues, the OASL and an Assistant Coach in the OPDL.

For all aspiring Goalkeeping Coaches, this online course is your first step into Goalkeeper development and will cover the basics of developing goalkeepers.

Level 1 Discipline and Appeals Certification Course bookings open
Ontario Soccer offers a Level 1 Discipline and Appeals Certification Course and is taking bookings for District Associations and applicable Leagues looking to host a course for their membership in 2020.

The course is one day (approx. eight hours) and led by an Ontario Soccer appointed instructor.

Rowan’s Law Mandatory Implementation
The Province of Ontario, at the present time, is the only province in Canada to enact Concussion Safety legislation throughout its sport system.

‘Rowan’s Law’ received Royal Assent on March 7, 2018, and Section 5 of the Act, proclaiming a ‘Rowan’s Law Day’ was the only section that came into effect at that time.

However, in 2019, the remaining parts of the Act and the regulation have now come into effect in phases.

OSCAR Outdoor Registration 2020 is now open
Ontario Soccer has opened the Outdoor 2020 season and is pleased to confirm that ‘OSCAR,’ the Ontario Soccer Club & Academy Registry, powered by SportsEngine, is ready for use for the Outdoor 2020 season.

More detailed information will follow regarding OSCAR 2020 and a conference call will be scheduled to provide answers for any questions organizations may have.

Kelly Murumets has been announced as a keynote speaker

Ontario Soccer has announced that another industry-leading sports executive will be joining the Ontario Soccer Summit 2020.

Kelly Murumets, who previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Canada, will be a keynote speaker at the Feb. 21-23, 2020 event in Hamilton.

“Kelly Murumets helped turn Tennis Canada into an off the court and on the court performing organization and she will share her lessons with the soccer community at the Ontario Soccer Summit,” said Johnny Misley, Ontario Soccer Chief Executive Officer.

Approved Game and Non-Game Related Related Operational Procedure changes

Ontario Soccer’s Board of Directors, at their Dec. 7, 2019 meeting, approved the Ontario Soccer Game Related and Non-Game Related Operational Procedures for 2020 and 2021.

This review includes multiple updates and changes that have been outlined in a ‘Major Changes’ form and has been made available online for review.

It is also important to note that updates include the Ontario Soccer Grassroots Standards, formerly known as the “Ontario Soccer LTPD Development Matrices” which are now recommended standards for players U12 and under in order to be aligned with Canada Soccer.

Ontario players swept the 2019 Canada Soccer Player Awards

Six awards. Six wins for players from Ontario.

Canada Soccer has announced their year-end Player Awards and Ontario athletes have won the male and female players of the year, the male and female youth international players of the year, the Para player of the award and the Futsal player of the year award.
