Play continues at the 2019 Midwest Conference Girls Fall Showcase

ST. LOUIS (Nov. 9, 2019) — The 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Conference Girls Fall Showcase continued Saturday at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex in St. Louis.

More than 120 Midwest Conference teams, including all Premier I and Premier II Division teams in the 15U-19U Girls age groups, are competing in some of the final games of their fall season at the event. The environment at the showcase provides a good opportunity for player evaluation, and more than 70 college coaches have been on hand for the first two days of action in St. Louis.

“The Midwest Conference and the National League do a great job of getting the girls the exposure they need to get to the next level,” said SC Wave coach Giuliano Oliviero after his 16U side won its Premier I match on Saturday to remain in first place. “Our girls understand that when they step on the field, they need to put on a good performance to have that next chance.”

The 16U SC Wave team has put in plenty of strong performances over the past year, which included the Wisconsin side winning the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championship in the 15U Girls age group.

Oliviero said the Midwest Conference offers more challenges for his team, and Sunday will present another one when SC Wave faces second-place Sporting St. Louis Red Devils 2004 (MO) to determine the Premier I Division winner.

“Part of developing our players is giving them the opportunity to compete in these big events. This is a big event this weekend — giving these girls an extra opportunity to get to Regionals or the National League,” Oliviero said. “Those are development moments for us as coaches and experiences the girls get to keep for a lifetime. These games are very important, and at the end of the day, we want to finish at the top of the table.”

The showcase weekend will wrap up with games on Sunday, when many teams will play the final games of their fall season.

Some notes from Saturday’s matches:

With the 15U Premier I Division title clinched, SC Wave Juniors 05 Girls (WI) won on Saturday to remain unbeaten and untied in the league. Meanwhile, Chicago Inter 05 Red (IL) is just two points back of Sporting STL 05 Academy (MO) — which tied its final conference game on Saturday — for second place. Chicago Inter has one game remaining and can jump into second with a win to earn a spot in the National League for the 2020-21 season.
In the 16U Premier I Division, SC Wave 04 Girls Blue Juniors (WI) came back from a goal down to earn a 4-1 win against SLSG 2004 Elite (MO). The win allowed SC Wave to keep a two-point lead at the top of the standings over Sporting St. Louis Red Devils 2004 (MO), who SC Wave faces on Sunday.
The top two teams in the 16U Premier II Division each dropped close decisions on Saturday. MI Burn 04 Black (MI) defeated group leader Sporting STL 2004 Rangers (MO), 1-0, while FC United 2004 Pre-Academy Copa (IL) beat Madison 56ers 04G Red (WI) by the same score.
