Six Ontario teams vying for gold at Toyota National Championships

Canada Soccer’s 2019 Toyota National Championships, Canada’s largest amateur team sport competition, kicks off today across the country.

More than 2,000 players, coaches and officials will gather in three locations, in three provinces, for the U-15, U-17 and senior Challenge Trophy and Jubilee Soccer For Life Competitions.

The teams representing Ontario are Milton Magic (U-15 Boys), Oshawa Kicks (U-15 Girls), Woodbridge SC (U-17 Boys), Ottawa TFC (U-17 Girls), Ottawa St. Anthony (Men’s) and Scarborough GS United (Women’s).

Academy Cup wraps up for three divisions, one more still to come

The Ontario Academy Soccer League culminated this past weekend at the first-ever Academy Cup which saw three of the academy divisions lift silverware in the U-14, U-16 and U-17 boys divisions.

“Congratulations to the winners of the Cup finals,” said Gary Miller, Ontario Soccer Director of Soccer Operations. “It is great to see the private Academies prepare players and compete at the OASL level. Continue the development in preparation for 2020.”

Toronto FC preparing for home playoff match at BMO Field

Toronto FC secured a home start to the 2019 MLS Cup Playoff on Sunday with a win over Columbus Crew SC.

And after a quick scheduling change, they will now play under the lights at BMO Field with a 6 pm kick-off on Oct. 19.

League1 Ontario grads ready to shine in Canadian Premier League final

With the Canadian Premier League final just weeks away, it’s important to recognize where the finalists have developed their players from.

The Forge FC and Cavalry FC feature core groups of players from two district player development pathways – Sigma FC of League1 Ontario has played an integral part in the makeup of the Forge in year one.

Canada set for USA Showdown Tuesday at BMO Field
Canada’s Men’s National Team 23-player squad have gathered in Toronto to begin preparations ahead of the crucial showdown against USA on Tuesday, October 15th at BMO Field.

The first competitive match between the two nations on Canadian soil in over 20 years will feature some of the world’s top young players including Canada’s Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David and USA’s Christian Pulisic and will be key in determining Canada’s path to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. First place in Concacaf Nations League A will be on the line as Toronto FC’s Jonathan Osorio and Richie Laryea will represent Canada against club teammates Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore and the United States.

HUB International Presents: Session Prep – Phase of Play
HUB International and Ontario Soccer are proud to present a series of Coaching Development videos targeted at helping coaches of all levels.

The HUB International Session Prep series focuses on different topics relevant to educating today’s coaches further.

This week’s video focuses on how a coach can set up a Phase of Play. The purpose of Phase of Play is to allow coaches to increase the number of repetitions of their topic with players who are essential to the success of the topic.

Selections announced for Provincial Screening
Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce the selections for the Provincial Screening Competition in October.

The Provincial Program is available to all Ontario Soccer registered players who are competing at either a U14, U15 or U16 age group.

The Provincial Program focuses on player screening, talent identification and benchmarking players through competition.

Ontario Soccer Summit 2020 tickets will go on sale Oct. 23
The city of Hamilton will play host to the 2020 Ontario Soccer Summit at Redeemer University College.

The 2019 installment of the Ontario Soccer Summit in London was a historic event. Ontario Soccer with the Hamilton and District Soccer Association is set to deliver an event even better than the last with a roster of amazing speakers including headliners FIFA vice president and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani.

OPDL caps sixth season in style with Charity Shield Showdown

Ontario Soccer’s Ontario Player Development League (OPDL), presented by Toronto FC, officially wrapped up its sixth season, as the OPDL Charity Shield match-ups took place at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

The top teams from the boys and girls U-14, U-15 and U-17 divisions competed in one game finals, in front of a packed house at the venue in Vaughan.

As well as a great opportunity for scouts to see Ontario’s talent up close, the OPDL Charity Shield also raises money for charity.

This year, over $7,000 was raised and the winning teams will now donate a portion of the proceeds to their charities of choice.

Masters win 2019 League1 Ontario Men’s title, defeating FC London

Masters FA only needed a single shot on target to get the party started but the bash continued throughout the night as the Saints were crowned 2019 League1 Ontario Champions, after a 4-1 win which was courtesy of an Akeem Priestly hat-trick over FC London.

Masters now qualifies for the 2020 Canadian Championship.

15 Ontario players called for rivalry match against USA

Canada Soccer have announced their squad for a crucial home match in 2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League against rivals USA.

The Oct. 15 home match in Toronto provides Canada with the opportunity to face one of the leading nations in the region. Fifteen players from Ontario have been selected to the squad.

Tickets start at as low as $25 while groups of 10 or more can save up to 30% off the regular price.

Ontario teams return with Gold and Silver medal from Masters

The Masters Regional Club Championships wrapped up recently as Ontario’s representatives faced off against other provinces in the Over-35 competition.

This year, Ontario was represented by two teams from the same club. Scarborough GS United won medals in both the Men’s and Women’s Ontario Masters Championships.

Ontario Soccer releases 2019-2021 Strategic Plan

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce its, Board of Directors approved, new Strategic Plan for 2019-2021, which will serve as a road map for soccer in the province over the next three years.

The Strategic Plan will focus on four key areas of the sport and within those areas, each have three Strategic Initiatives where Ontario Soccer will look at tackling opportunities on and off the field.
