Four Ontario Cup champions were crowned last weekend

The first four Ontario Cup Finals of 2019 took place on Sunday, as the U-18 and U-21 divisions wrapped up their campaigns at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

On Sunday, a familiar storyline emerged as Vaughan SC captured their sixth straight U-21 Men’s Ontario Cup title. Elsewhere on Sunday, Saltfleet Stoney Creek, Erin Mills SC and Glen Shields won their own respective titles.

Eight players from Ontario selected to be part of Canada U-15 boys squad

Canada Soccer have announced their squad for the 2019 CONCACAF Boys’ U-15 Championship to be played in the USA from Aug. 4-12.

Eight of the 18 players in the Canadian team, will play up to six matches in an eight-day span as they enter Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL Program on the pathway to the Men’s National Team Program.

Canada Soccer selects squad for Men’s U-17 camp in Montreal

Canada Soccer have announced their squad for a Men’s EXCEL U-17 camp in Montreal, Quebec from July 31 to August. 10.

The 11-day camp, which will feature 11 players from Ontario, will continue Canada’s preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 in October and November for this year.

WATCH – The courses you can take on Coaches Super Week

The first annual Coaches Super Week will be taking place on Aug. 10-18, 2019 at RIM Park, Waterloo and at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

This is a chance for coaches of all abilities in Ontario to experience courses available to them by both Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer.

Abuse and Dissent: How Ontario Soccer is making the game safer

Based on surveys conducted by Ontario Soccer from 2012 to 2019, Abuse and Dissent are consistently ranked as the top two reasons why Match Officials would choose not to, or do not, return to the game.

In response to that surveying, Ontario Soccer, more than ever, is deploying strategies to protect Match Officials and educate both parents and coaches to the abuse effects.

Regular OSCAR updates on functionality and solutions

In alignment with the successful launch and transition to OSCAR, Ontario Soccer has identified the need to provide greater up-to-date information on the status of OSCAR, its functionality and available solutions.

As such, Ontario Soccer has added an additional page to its website where regular updates and changes to OSCAR can be found for those who are active in using the registration platform on a more consistent basis.

WATCH – What your organization needs to know about concussions

With the recent adoption of Rowan’s Law – legislation surrounding concussions in youth sport – there have been a lot of questions from clubs, academies and the Ontario Soccer membership on how to handle concussions.

The Ontario Soccer Player Development program, along with Stephanie McFarland of the Holland Bloorview Concussion Centre, have put together a webinar to answer many of the questions surrounding Rowan’s Law, how to implement concussion policies at the grassroots level and reviewing resources for coaches, parents and players after a concussion.

Ontario Soccer’s Sponsorship Policy articulates how to secure sponsorship in a manner consistent with the common standards implemented within the amateur sports industry.

Ontario Soccer releases 2019-2021 Strategic Plan

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce its, Board of Directors approved, new Strategic Plan for 2019-2021, which will serve as a road map for soccer in the province over the next three years.

The Strategic Plan will focus on four key areas of the sport and within those areas, each have three Strategic Initiatives where Ontario Soccer will look at tackling opportunities on and off the field.
