New leadership added to Ontario Soccer Board of Directors

Ontario Soccer has elected new members to its Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting of the Members (AMM) on Sunday.

In the second election under the new modernized governance structure, four Board members were elected to help lead the strategy for soccer in the province.

Soccer leaders honoured at Centre Circle Awards 2019

Volunteers from all over the province were recognized at the Centre Circle Awards on Saturday.

A classy gala event, presented by Nothers Signs and Recognition, was an evening of awards honoured to those who have made outstanding contributions to the game in Ontario.

Twelve winners had already been announced but two more were revealed on the evening.

Canadian men win first match at Gold Cup, will now face Mexico tonight

Canada opened the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup with their largest-ever margin of victory in the confederation championship – a 4-0 victory over Martinique at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Canada got goals from Jonathan David, Junior Hoilett and captain Scott Arfield and the Men’s side will now face Mexico on Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.

Two Ontario players lead Canada to victory at Women’s World Cup

Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team are into the Round of 16 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 after earning their second Group E victory 2-0 over New Zealand.

Jessie Fleming, from London and Nichelle Prince from Ajax, scored for Canada, who will now face the Netherlands on Thursday to determine the winner of the group. Canada needs a victory to be atop Group E.

Circle K announced as Ontario Soccer Premier Partner
Ontario Soccer and Circle K announced today that Circle K, a Convenience Store industry-leader, is joining Ontario Soccer as a Premier Partner of the provincial organization and the exclusive title partner of the Ontario Soccer Grassroots Program.

“The Circle K brand is an impressive Canadian success story and we welcome them into our Ontario Soccer partner family,” said Johnny Misley, Ontario Soccer Chief Executive Officer. “Their investment into soccer in this province will have a long-lasting impact on the game and our participants will benefit greatly from their support.”

Additionally, Circle K will now have activation and promotional rights with the Ontario Cup, the Ontario Soccer Summit, Centre Circle Awards and other events.

Player Recommendation Process for Talent on Location Days
The Ontario Soccer High Performance Program has released the player recommendation process for Technical Staff of District Members Clubs and Ontario Registered Academies that now appears on the Ontario Soccer website in the High Performance, Player Talented Pathway section.

This will allow players in Ontario to have the opportunity to be recommended by a certified and qualified Club, Academy Head Coach or Technical Director.

Find the course right for you on Coaches Super Week this summer
Ontario Soccer is excited to announce the first annual Coaches Super Week, taking place on Aug. 10-18, 2019 at RIM Park, Waterloo and at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

This is a chance for coaches of all abilities in Ontario to experience courses available to them by both Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer.

Webinar – Happy Birthday? The Relative Age Effect in Sport
Dr. Nick Wattie is a Sport Scientist in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University.

Wattie hosted a webinar last week that looked at the existing evidence of relative age effects in sport, a number of misconceptions surrounding relative age effects, as well as unique developments in this area that might be relevant to parents and practitioners involved in youth sports.

In alignment with the successful launch and transition to OSCAR, Ontario Soccer has identified the need to provide greater up-to-date information on the status of OSCAR, its functionality and available solutions.

As such, Ontario Soccer has added an additional page to its website where regular updates and changes to OSCAR can be found for those who are active in using the registration platform on a more consistent basis.

The primary goals of Club Licensing are to set clearly defined standards and expectations, recognize excellence in the soccer community, raise the level of all soccer organizations and finally, drive change in the soccer community.

Ontario Soccer releases 2019-2021 Strategic Plan

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce its, Board of Directors approved, new Strategic Plan for 2019-2021, which will serve as a road map for soccer in the province over the next three years.

The Strategic Plan will focus on four key areas of the sport and within those areas, each have three Strategic Initiatives where Ontario Soccer will look at tackling opportunities on and off the field.
