The Centre Circle Award winners have been announced for 2019

The Centre Circle Awards are Ontario Soccer’s highest level of recognition and are presented annually to deserving soccer leaders and organizations nominated on the basis of their outstanding contributions to the development of soccer in Ontario and Canada.

The 2019 Centre Circle Award winners will be recognized at a gala event June 15, 2019 at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel.

Canada Men win 4-3 in penalties to qualify for FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019

Canada qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 after winning 4-3 on kicks from the penalty mark over CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica.

After 120 minutes in the Florida heat with no winner from a 1-1 draw, Canada won their ticket to the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time in six years.

Windsor’s Gianfranco Facchineri scored the winner in penalties while Bolton’s Julian Altobelli also scored from the penalty mark.

The Nominations Committee has received no nominations from District Members for the Regional East Director for the new Ontario Soccer Board of Directors.

Nominations open today Wednesday, May 1, 2019 and will close at the end of the day Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

L1O champion Vaughan Azzurri kick off Canadian Championship
Canada Soccer’s professional club championship, the 2019 Canadian Championship, kicks off May 15 with an expanded 13 team, 24-match competition format.

Vaughan Azzurri, League1 Ontario champion, will kick off the competition on May 15 at the Ontario Soccer Centre when they take on the Canadian Premier League’s HFX Wanderers.

14 Ontario players selected to squad for Canada vs Mexico game
Canada Soccer supporters will be in full voice when Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team faces CONCACAF rivals Mexico at BMO Field in Toronto on May 18.

The match will serve as the official send-off before this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 and with 14 Ontario players in the squad, there will be lots to cheer about for Ontario members.

Regular OSCAR updates on functionality and solutions
In alignment with the successful launch and transition to OSCAR, Ontario Soccer has identified the need to provide greater up-to-date information on the status of OSCAR, its functionality and available solutions.

As such, Ontario Soccer has added an additional page to its website where regular updates and changes to OSCAR can be found for those who are active in using the registration platform on a more consistent basis.

Match Officials mentor program being introduced in May 2019
Ontario Soccer would like to inform all District Associations, Clubs and Academies of the implementation of the Long Term Match Official Development (LTOD) Mentor Program that is being introduced in May 2019.

As a component of Ontario Trillium Funding, Ontario Soccer will be providing 25 complimentary Mentor Accreditation Clinics across the province. District Referee Coordinators are encouraged to reach out to allocate a clinic.

LTOD Around the Province
In 2018, Ontario Soccer met with 115 clubs face-to-face, to present the importance of Long Term Match Official Development. This year, Ontario Soccer have adjusted the focus of the presentation to Club Board Members including Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Technical Directors, Executive Directors and more.

The match official development department now regularly travel to clubs and districts to present on the importance of LTOD as well as run education sessions.

Canadian soccer leaders support Canada Soccer safe sport roster

At the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Members in Quebec City, Canada Soccer’s membership unanimously supported a suite of programs and initiatives that contribute to safe, fun and welcoming environments involved in the game.

The Canada Soccer Safe Sport Radar combines the benefits of mandatory certification for all coaches, a sophisticated Club Licensing Program, National Soccer Registry, Whistleblower Policy and Hotline, Code of Conduct and Ethics, and concussion protocols to create the best possible conditions for players, coaches, referees and administrators.

Ontario Soccer Board of Director expressions of interest now public

Ontario Soccer has released the Ontario Soccer Board of Director Expressions of Interest.

These expressions of interest by individuals indicate their intent to run for open positions in the Ontario Soccer Board of Director elections on June 16, 2019.

Ontario Player Development League kicked off its sixth season

Ontario Soccer’s Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) officially entered its sixth season recently, as games kicked-off across the province at six centralized venues.

Twenty-three clubs, one Professional Academy and one Private Academy are confirmed for the upcoming season, as the OPDL will make adjustments in 2019 to better support the advancement of athletes along the Talented Pathway.

47 academies to be part of Ontario Academy Soccer League 2019

The Ontario Academy Soccer League (OASL) season kicked-off May 4-5 for its first weekend of play in 2019.

The third year of the OASL Pilot Program operated by Ontario Soccer, in partnership with DG Sports, featured 47 private Academies and approximately 300 teams from across the province.

Twenty-eight Academies will play in OASL Tier 1 and 19 Academies will play in Tier 2.

Find your path to the 2019 Ontario Cup

The 2019 Ontario Cup draws are now available for all divisions.

The Ontario Cup is the Soccer-For-Life Provincial Soccer Championship and is the largest competition of its kind in Canada.

The Ontario Cup draw has determined the path for over 400 teams across 16 divisions in hopes of becoming provincial champions.

Canada Soccer’s Jason de Vos, Director of Soccer Development and Dave Nutt, Manager of Development – Operations, joined a packed 2019 Ontario Soccer Summit session to thoroughly go through the Club Licensing program with delegates.

The primary goals of Club Licensing are to set clearly defined standards and expectations, recognize excellence in the soccer community, raise the level of all soccer organizations and finally, drive change in the soccer community.

Ontario Soccer releases 2019-2021 Strategic Plan

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce its, Board of Directors approved, new Strategic Plan for 2019-2021, which will serve as a road map for soccer in the province over the next three years.

The Strategic Plan will focus on four key areas of the sport and within those areas, each have three Strategic Initiatives where Ontario Soccer will look at tackling opportunities on and off the field.
