LAFC creep closer to West summit

Carlos Vela led the way with two goals and two assists as LAFC opened the weekend slate with a 4-2 victory over visiting Houston on Friday night. Combined with FC Dallas’ slip, the result allowed Bob Bradley’s bunch to climb within a point of the Western Conference lead. RECAP

Revs, Rapids post matching wins

New England scored their first home win in nearly 3 1/2 months on Saturday with a 2-0 decision over Orlando City. Cristian Penilla netted the 51st-minute winner, and then set up a Diego Fagundez strike four minutes later. RECAP

Elsewhere, Colorado halted a seven-game losing streak with a 2-0 away win over Minnesota United FC on Saturday. Yannick Boli scored his first goal since May to snap a scoreless deadlock just past the hour and Niki Jackson added late insurance. RECAP
