Acosta, Rooney bump off Atlanta

On Saturday, Montreal stayed six points clear of United for the last playoff berth in the East on the strength of a big 3-0 home win over the New York Red Bulls. Impact defenders Rod Fanni and Bacary Sagna each scored their first MLS goal a few moments apart to help send the Supporters’ Shield leaders to their first defeat in over a month. RECAP

Crazy eight for Seattle

Seattle now own the longest single season winning streak since the end of the shootout era after notching their eighth in a row with a 3-1 triumph over Saturday guests Sporting KC. Santiago Mosquera bagged his first MLS double to spark FC Dallas to a 4-2 triumph over derby visitors Houston on Saturday night. The West leaders won for the sixth time in their last seven home games to reclaim El Capitan, while also pushing the Dynamo’s league win drought to 10 matches. RECAP

Columbus doubles up NYCFC

Harrison Afful and Justin Meram netted two minutes apart midway through the second half to earn a 2-1 home win against New York City FC. The result left the visitors winless in three for the first time this season. RECAP

A stoppage time equalizer from Orlando City defender Scott Sutter ended Philadelphia’s win streak with a 2-2 draw on Saturday. The result leaves the visitors 10 points above the playoff line. RECAP

Four-star LAFC deepen TFC woes

Carlos Vela scored two goals and set up another as LAFC grabbed second in the West thanks to a 4-2 win at Toronto FC. The loss was more of the same for the scuffling champs, according to skipper Michael Bradley. READ MORE | RECAP

Elsewhere, Real Salt Lake strolled to their third straight win with a 6-2 rout of the visiting LA Galaxy. Damir Kreilach fired a hat trick and Albert Rusnak added a brace as Mike Petke’s team became the first team to score six goals in consecutive MLS games. RECAP

Caps close on playoff line

Vancouver pulled to within a point of the last playoff slot in the West with a 2-1 victory over Saturday guests San Jose. Alphonso Davies and Nicolas Mezquida supplied goals as the hosts extended their unbeaten run to 4-0-2. RECAP

Portland held firm in that same playoff spot Vancouver is chasing by battling back late for a 1-1 draw at New England. Lawrence Olum scored with 20 minutes remaining to leave the faltering Revs winless in nine. RECAP
