Woodbridge Strikers will face Durham United FA in League1 Ontario women’s finals

The League1 Ontario Women’s 2018 Championship is set.

The Woodbridge Strikers will take on Durham United FA on Sept. 1, 2018 at the Ontario Soccer Centre. The game kicks-off at 3 p.m. and tickets are $10 at the gate.

The Ontario Cup finals are set

The Ontario Cup finals are now locked in.

Semi-finals took place across the province over the weekend and after starting with over 600 teams, the competitions have now been whittled down to the final two.

The finals will take place over the Sept. 8-9 and Sept. 15-16 weekends at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Two Masters Provincial Champions crowned in Oshawa

The Masters Provincial Championships wrapped over the weekend at Civic Stadium in Oshawa with two champions being crowned.

The Men’s Over-35 Masters Championships saw Scarborough GS United come out on top. Click here to read the match recap and find photos.

The Women’s Over-30 Masters finals saw the Cumberland Cobras lift their trophy. Click here to read the match recap and find photos.

Both teams now move on the Canada Soccer Regional Club Championships.


Find out who has put their name forward for Ontario Soccer Board of Directors positions

Ontario Soccer has released the Ontario Soccer Board of Director Expressions of interest.

These Expressions of Interest by individuals indicate their intent to run for positions in the new Ontario Soccer Board of Director elections on Oct. 14, 2018.

Any candidate who has put forward their expressions of interest must now be nominated by at least two members of Ontario Soccer, to be eligible to be elected. Nominations must be submitted before Sept. 3, 2018.

Canadian Premier League trials coming to Ontario
The Canadian Premier League has announced that soccer players 16 and older will have an opportunity to earn a spot on a professional club roster through the #GotGame Open Trials.

Canada’s new men’s professional soccer league will hosts these trials in seven cities across the country beginning in September. These trials will take place in two Ontario cities. The CPL #GotGame Open Trials will take place in Hamilton on Oct. 1-2 and Toronto on Oct. 11-12.

14 players from Ontario, including two from OPDL, called to Canada
Canada Soccer has released its Women’s National Team roster for the upcoming Women’s International Friendly match against Brazil. Canada’s squad will face Brazil in Ottawa on Sunday, Sept. 2 at TD Place.

Fourteen players from Ontario, including two OPDL grads, have been called into the squad for the match.

The OPDL Spotlight Series – Hamilton United


The OPDL Spotlight Series, presented by Toronto FC, highlights stories, teams and initiatives from around the league.

Ontario’s Melissa Snedden assigned to CONCACAF qualifer
Ontario’s Melissa Snedden has been assigned to the 2018 CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s Qualifer final taking place in Kingston, Jamaica from Aug. 25 to Sept. 2.

The final round will qualify three Caribbean teams to the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

Grassroots Practices You Can Use – Fundamentals
The Player Development department puts together practices for coaches to use with their players across the province.

Each week focuses on one of the three LTPD development stages at the Grassroots level, which includes Active Start, Fundamentals and Learn to Train.

U-17 age group added to Regional League Champions tournament
With the launch of the Regional League Champions Tournament in 2015, providing an end-of-season competition for the Regional Champions at the U-14 age group only, the demand for this competition between Regional League winners grew with the addition of the U-15 and U-16 age groups.

This year, Ontario Soccer has announced that it will add the U-17 Regional League champions as the final age group for this event.

Spots still available for two coveted coaching courses
Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce the date and location of two upcoming Coach Development opportunities.

The National B License Part 1 registration is now open for a course that will be held in Waterloo from Oct. 1 – Oct. 5.

The Soccer Fitness Diploma registration is now open for a course that will be held at the Ontario Soccer Centre from Sept. 15-16.

PISL accepting applications for 2018-2019 indoor season
The Provincial Indoor Soccer League is currently accepting team applications for its 2018-2019 season.

The league is open to Ontario Soccer club teams and OASL academies for U14-U18 boys and girls teams.

Ontario Soccer Summit 2019 tickets go on sale Nov. 1, 2018
Ontario Soccer has announced that the Ontario Soccer Summit 2019 tickets will go on sale Nov. 1 and the full roster of 2019 speakers will be revealed at that time.

Ontario Soccer has also previously announced the date and location of the host city for the 2019 Ontario Soccer Summit and next year the event will be hosted outside the Greater Toronto area and will be in London from March 1-3, 2019.

Purchase tickets to the Match Officials Appreciation Day
Ontario Soccer and Toronto FC present the third Annual Match Officials Appreciation Day. On Oct. 28, join us in celebrating awards for nominees across the province. A ticket to Match Officials Appreciation Day includes access to the ceremony, one ticket to the Toronto FC vs Atlanta United FC game to follow, a commemorative t-shirt and early access.

Over 20,000 soccer leaders now certified in Activity Leader program

Ontario Soccer is continuing to show that the safety of their athletes and participants are a priority to the community.

This week, Respect in Sport revealed that Ontario Soccer has surpassed 20,000 certifications in the Respect in Sport Activity Leader program.

This is in addition to the 10,000 parents who have already been certified in the Respect in Sport Parent Program.

Ontario Soccer President announces he will not run for re-election

Ron Smale, Ontario Soccer President, announced late last week that he would make good on his promise and will not be running for re-election at the new Board of Director elections.

A new, smaller and more efficient Board will be elected at the Annual General Meeting on Oct. 14, 2018.

Smale shared his thoughts on why he is stepping away at this time.

Tickets now on sale today for Canada vs Dominica game

Canada will play their first home match in 2018-2019 CONCACAF Nations League qualifying on Oct. 16 at BMO Field.

Canada will face Dominica in the first 2018 home match with a 7 p.m. kick-off. Tickets will go on sale to the public on July 25.

Ontario Soccer’s MMRS for Outdoor 2019

On June 9, 2018, upon positive review of beta test results and survey data, the Ontario Soccer Board of Directors approved the move to Phase 2 of the three-phase implementation plan for the new SportsEngine Member Management Registration System (MMRS).

The Board of Directors has approved, effective for the Outdoor 2019 season (for which registration can occur no earlier than Oct. 1, 2018) and for all seasons thereafter, SportsEngine’s MMRS will be the official record of registration for Ontario Soccer.

This launch period all commences the retirement of AIMS which will be maintained for archival purposes only effective Oct. 2019 season. The official retirement of AIMS is effective at the end of the Indoor 2018-2019 season.
