Josef Martinez established a new single-season scoring standard with his 28th goal of the 2018 campaign, as Atlanta topped Heineken Rivalry Week visitors Orlando City, 2-1. Though his record-setting finish was as cool as cucumber ice cream, Martinez still breathed a sigh of relief after setting the mark by netting in his 10th straight road game (another MLS record, mind you). Seattle picks up 7th straight, RBNY cool D.C.

Form side Seattle rang up their seventh win in a row in Sunday’s Heineken Rivalry Week capper, nipping Cascadia derby hosts Portland 1-0 on a late own goal. In his weekend review, Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle writes that the Sounders moved into a playoff position for the first time this season by exposing the main weakness of their arch rivals. Across the continent, the Red Bulls stayed within reach of the Eastern summit after a 1-0 win over Atlantic Cup guests D.C. United on Sunday. Kaku scored for the first time since early May, hitting the winner 11 minutes past intermission to earn RBNY bunch their seventh victory in the last eight home games. RECAP

West race tight after El Tráfico draw, SKC win

The regular season’s final Los Angeles derby finished 1-1 after LAFC ace Carlos Vela erased an early goal by Galaxy superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic from the spot. On Saturday, Sporting KC chalked up their fourth consecutive shutout win with a 2-0 decision against visiting Minnesota United FC. The result lifted the home side to within a point of Western leaders FC Dallas. RECAP

Toronto, Philly making noise in East playoff race


Defending champs Toronto FC continued their season resurrection project with an important 3-1 victory over visiting rivals Montreal on Saturday. Sebastian Giovinco scored twice as the Reds snapped a three-game win drought. READ MORE | RECAP

A maturing Philadelphia side posted their third straight win, topping weekend guests New England 1-0 to move seven points clear of the playoff line. The game was decided by a controversial second-half strike by Cory Burke. READ MORE | RECAP

RSL run riot at Colorado, ‘Caps continue push

Jefferson Savarino notched two goals and an assist to lead Real Salt Lake to a 6-0 demolition of nine-man derby hosts Colorado. The fourth-place Claret and Cobalt have consecutive road wins for the first time since last August. RECAP

Vancouver gained ground in the playoff race by coming back from two goals down to post a 3-2 victory at San Jose on Saturday night. The Whitecaps, who turned the match with three goals in the span of nine mid-second half minutes, are now unbeaten in five and just a point shy of the playoff line. RECAP

Basti, Fire amped for Bayern testimonial

While much of the league is dusting themselves off after Rivalry Week, the Chicago Fire are in Germany preparing for Tuesday’s Bastian Schweinsteiger testimonial match against Bayern Munich.
